Secondary Grade Teachers (SGTs) staged protests during the lunch break at the ZPHS Indupur and other schools, opposing the implementation of GO No. 25, and demanding that it be withdrawn or suitably amended.

Similar protests were held across the State, according to K Mahipal Reddy, president of Secondary Grade Teachers Union (SGTU). He said the measures being implemented in the name of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) were increasing the workload on SGTs in primary schools. He demanded that the government ensure one teacher for each class and reduce the existing teacher-pupil ratio to 1:20.

The teachers said the protest was also held against the backdrop of an alleged suicide attempt by a teacher, Prashanth, from Silvokodur school in Jagtial district, after reportedly coming under severe pressure during a school complex meeting.

They demanded that teachers be relieved of non-teaching duties so that they could focus on classroom instruction. They also opposed measures that, they alleged, were putting additional pressure on teachers in the name of providing one teacher for every class.
