Tata Electronics triples equity investment as iPhone, chip plans expand

Tata Electronics significantly increased capital investments and debt financing for Apple iPhone manufacturing and semiconductor initiatives. The company provided ₹61,280 crore in guarantees and ₹1,017 crore in loans to subsidiaries. Equity investments surged to ₹3,727 crore largely due to semiconductor business expansion. Despite a revenue increase, net losses widened significantly to ₹1,611 crore for the fiscal year.

Kolkata: Tata Electronics sharply enhanced capital infusion and debt financing into its subsidiaries last fiscal year to support expansion of Apple iPhone manufacturing and semiconductor projects, showed latest regulatory filings.

The Tata Group's electronics manufacturing flagship provided ₹61,280 crore in corporate guarantees on behalf of its units, and extended ₹1,017 crore in fresh inter-corporate loans to fund their working capital and capital expenditure needs. Tata Electronics also more than tripled equity investments to ₹3,727 crore as of March 2026, showed the filings with the registrar of companies.

The sharp rise in equity funding was driven largely by the semiconductor business. Investment in Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing was ₹1,501 crore in FY26 compared to nil the year before, while funding for Tata Semiconductor Assembly & Test jumped to ₹954 crore from just ₹50 crore a year earlier. Total equity investment in subsidiaries was about ₹1,200 crore in FY25.

The funding push came even as Tata Electronics' own gross debt surged 71% to ₹11,718 crore in FY26. This was despite the company getting ₹3,000 crore in fresh equity from parent Tata Sons during the year, through infusions in September and March.

Six years after its incorporation, Tata Electronics has emerged as the conglomerate's flagship electronics manufacturer, with operations spanning iPhone manufacturing, electronics manufacturing services, semiconductor assembly and testing, semiconductor foundry and chip design. The company manufactures about 12% of the total phones produced by Apple's global manufacturing network.

On a consolidated basis, Tata Electronics' operating income nearly doubled, rising by about 96% to ₹1,29,902 crore in FY26, while net loss widened sharply to as much as ₹1,611 crore from ₹70 crore a year earlier. Consolidated Ebitda stood at ₹2,703 crore.

On a standalone basis, operating income more than tripled to ₹4,015 crore from ₹1,196 crore, while net loss narrowed to ₹773 crore from ₹998 crore. The company said it recorded standalone Ebitda of ₹804 crore but remained loss-making due to high depreciation and interest costs.

The company has also introduced an employee stock option plan for select employees including in the subsidiaries, the filings showed. Tata Electronics didn't respond to email queries.

Tata Sons recently said Tata Electronics has become Tata Group's fourth largest company by revenue in FY26.
