HYDERABAD

Working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has unveiled the drama of BRS MLCs’ comments against the Speaker as part of his plan to divert people’s attention from his government’s excesses on women legislators of the Opposition.

Speaking to newspersons here on Monday, he said the BRS legislators went to the Assembly wearing black-coloured t-shirts with slogans on the unkept promises of the Congress government. “We did not use any unparliamentary or objectionable language on the T shirts. When Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi wore black T-shirts in the Parliament premises why can’t we,” he asked.

He further stated that the police had acted illegally and attacked the BRS legislators, in which several members sustained bruises and some injuries. He accused the police of pulling the women legislators by their hair. He demanded that the Chief Minister take responsibility in his capacity as the Home Minister for police behaviour against P. Sabitha Indra Reddy and V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy.

“When we apprised our party chief about the incidents, he instructed us to apologise with a large heart, and accordingly MLC Tata Madhu clarified that he had not said anything against the Speaker and if the Speaker felt they were against him he was withdrawing it and expressing an apology”, Mr. Rama Rao said. He stated that the BRS had also boycotted the Business Advisory Council (BAC) meeting, protesting the insult to BRS women legislators.

Mr. Rama Rao claimed the Speaker was biased against the BRS, as he openly said in the House that he would not give the mike if members criticised the Chief Minister. He said they would move a no-confidence motion against the Speaker if necessary.
