Athletes who suffer unexpected injuries to the knee, elbow or other parts of the body can reclaim their past glory and scale new heights if they receive proper medical treatment, said orthopaedic, joint and sports injury specialist Bezawada Paparao.

Addressing the media in Vijayawada on Tuesday (September 22, 2026), he cited the example of Ch. Venkatesh, a policeman working in the DGP office, who won a gold medal in the taekwondo poomsae event at the 11th All India Police Judo Cluster Championship.

Mr. Paparao said the policeman had suffered a severe knee injury in 2022 and that an endoscopic keyhole surgery was performed at his clinic to reconstruct the ligament. After the surgery, Mr. Venkatesh underwent physiotherapy and exercise routines for nine months to regain his fitness.

Mr. Venkatesh had proved that injuries could not stand in the way of victory when backed by strong determination, the doctor said.
