Private travel bus catches fire in Srikakulam district, no injuries reported

A private travel bus was burnt completely after it caught fire on Saturday (September 19, 2026) near Narasannapeta of Srikakulam district.
According to locals, the KVR Travels bus which was travelling from Vijayawada to Palasa stopped near Narasannapeta due to technical glitch. As many as seven passengers got down immediately after smoke was seen emitting from the engine. The bus was burnt through within no time, soon after the driver, staff and passengers deboarded.
As a result, the traffic on both sides of Narasannapeta national highway was congested due to the fire.
The fire fighting team arrived from Narasannapeta and doused the flames. Deputy Transport Commissioner Mani Kumar directed transport officials to conduct an inquiry into the fire accident and submit a report for further action to be taken.
Meanwhile, the locals complained that the private bus operators were allowing heavy luggage and inflammatory goods inside the cargo cabin and that could be the reason for fire accidents in private buses.
