One held for attempting to murder prison officer in Keralam

The Fort police have arrested one person on the charge of attempting to murder an assistant prison officer of the Poojappura Central Prison.
The accused, Ashish, a habitual offender, assaulted prison officer Prajith at the Chala market in Thiruvananthapuram on July 18, 2026 due to a previous enmity. The accused had earlier been lodged in prison, during which the prison officer had reported his alleged anti-social activities to the Prison Superintendent. The police suspect that the attack is linked to that incident.
While the accused fled after the incident at Chala, an investigation focussing on his mobile phone and other details revealed that he travelled first to Madurai, then to Bengaluru and subsequently to Hyderabad.
The police received confidential information that the accused returned to his home on Sunday. He was subsequently apprehended by a Fort police team from his house.
Pending criminal cases
Among the pending criminal cases registered against him, the accused had been previously held for allegedly attacking a doctor at the General Hospital, assaulting a court official at the Vanchiyoor District Court, threatening the manager of the State Bank of India at Manacaud, and making a hoax bomb threat at a mosque in Manacaud.
He has been remanded in judicial custody.
