Following a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck, the Dallas North Tollway is closed in both directions close to West Northwest Highway.

Several 911 complaints about a significant collision on the Dallas North Tollway (southbound) near W. Northwest Highway prompted the dispatch of Dallas Fire-Rescue units on Friday, September 25, at 11:08 am.

According to Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR), emergency crews responded after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a serious collision on the southbound tollway. The crash involved six vehicles, including an 18-wheeler that rolled onto its side.

DFR said the injured included a man and a woman in their 30s and another woman in her 20s. All three were reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Why is the Dallas North Tollway closed?

Authorities said the overturned truck was carrying several containers, or totes, filled with miscellaneous fluids, including used cooking oil.

Dallas Fire-Rescue’s Hazardous Materials Team worked to stop those containers from leaking while containing the diesel spill from the truck’s saddle tanks.

The cleanup operation is expected to take time because crews must safely remove the overturned truck, recover spilled fuel and inspect the roadway before traffic can resume.

Once emergency crews completed their initial response, the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) assumed control of the scene. The agency is overseeing the remaining cleanup and roadway restoration before deciding when the southbound lanes can safely reopen.

As of the latest official update, all southbound lanes remain closed from Walnut Hill Lane to West Northwest Highway. Officials have not provided an estimated reopening time.

Investigation and traffic impact

Authorities have not yet released the cause of the crash.

Police and transportation officials are expected to investigate the sequence of events involving all six vehicles once the roadway has been cleared.

Traffic incidents involving overturned commercial trucks often require extended closures because heavy-duty wreckers must safely remove the vehicle before crews can clean hazardous spills and inspect road surfaces for damage.

The Dallas North Tollway is one of the busiest commuter corridors in North Texas, connecting drivers between downtown Dallas and rapidly growing northern suburbs.

Officials have advised commuters to monitor NTTA traffic updates and local emergency alerts before traveling through the area. Additional updates are expected once cleanup progresses and engineers determine whether the roadway is safe to reopen.
