Former J&K Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday (September 26, 2026) appealed to secular-minded people to join a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on September 29 against “injustices” and to protect the country’s composite culture.

“You know that today in our country, mosques, shrines, and churches are being demolished with great ruthlessness. Apart from this, in the voter lists that are being prepared, the names of opposition supporters, secular-minded people, and especially Muslims, are being removed,” said Ms. Mufti, in a video posted on X.

She said the Monitoring Committee for Indian Muslims is holding a protest on September 29 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Jantar Mantar against “all these injustices”.

“I appeal to all secular-minded people to participate in this and help us protect this country’s democracy, this country’s brotherhood, and the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb [composite culture] of this nation,” said Ms. Mufti.
