The first step

The alleged theft of devotees’ donations, amounting to hundreds of crores, has seriously eroded the credibility of the Ayodhya Ram Temple administration and the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh. The U.P. government apparently had no inkling of what was going on. The move to appoint a retired Air Marshal as the CEO of the Ram Temple Trust (Inside pages, September 3) and other carefully selected trustees is a step towards injecting professionalism into the administration. It is incumbent upon the U.P. Government to keep a hawk’s eye on the temple administration and conduct periodic checks to ensure that everything is functioning smoothly.

Building castles in the air

One really wonders why the Congress party and the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu are thinking aloud about who should be the next Prime Minister of India — Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, or C. Joseph Vijay, TVK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Mr. Vijay has completed only 100-odd days as Chief Minister.

Rather, he is still an apprentice on the job and should focus on becoming a successful Chief Minister. Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is still on a strong wicket and, at this point in time, appears irreplaceable.
