Keralam power crisis: Suresh Gopi says previous governments too responsible, asks public to ‘wait’ before judging UDF

By Sohail Khan 19 September 2026, 3:26 pm

Union Minister Suresh Gopi has said that he did not intend to criticise the United Democratic Front (UDF) government in Keralam for the ongoing power crisis, as previous governments were also responsible for the current situation.

“You should ask why such a situation (power crisis) emerged. The previous governments were also responsible for it,” he told mediapersons on the sidelines of the Union government’s Rozgar mela held in Kochi on Saturday.

He said that it is not yet time to criticise the performance of the UDF government. “Let us wait,” he said. He rejected allegations that there is a deal between the UDF government and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He reiterated that he failed to get support from the previous Left front government when he tried to bring in tourism projects for the State. “It has changed now. The hurdles were cleared after it was brought to the notice of the Chief Minister. That should not be portrayed as a deal, as such allegations are raised by people with vested political interests,” he said.

On the corruption allegations in the CMRL-Exalogic pay-off case, Mr. Gopi said that it is up to the courts to take a decision on such cases.
