With lakhs of devotees expected to descend on Tirumala for the annual nine-day Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara scheduled from September 15, the district police and the TTD have jointly drawn up an extensive security and traffic management plan, including curbs on private vehicles and intensified surveillance to prevent congestion and ensure pilgrim safety.

Tirupati district Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu and TTD’s Chief Vigilance and Security Officer (CVSO) Murali Krishna on Friday jointly inspected key stretches in Tirumala, including the Ring Road, major traffic junctions and important pilgrim movement corridors, to assess preparedness for the festival.

Mr. Subbarayudu said crowd management and traffic regulation would be the primary focus, with command and sub-control rooms being equipped to monitor the situation continuously and facilitate a quick response to any emergency. Given Tirumala’s limited parking capacity of about 2,500 to 3,000 vehicles, private and yellow-board vehicles would be regulated, with designated parking facilities being identified in Tirupati.

Devotees arriving in private vehicles would be encouraged to park in Tirupati and use APSRTC buses to reach Tirumala and return after darshan. He appealed to pilgrims to cooperate with the police and TTD and make greater use of public transport.

Special traffic restrictions are also being planned for Garuda Seva, the biggest draw of the Brahmotsavams.

Details of the routes and points up to which two-wheelers and private vehicles would be permitted, besides the timing of restrictions, would be announced soon, Mr. Subbarayudu said.

Mr. Murali Krishna said security preparations were being coordinated by the district police and TTD vigilance, security and engineering wings. More than 2,800 CCTV cameras installed across Tirumala had been integrated with the Command Control Centre, enabling round-the-clock surveillance through facial recognition and automated analytics. Additional cameras were being deployed at identified pressure points to detect and manage sudden crowd surges.

Officials urged devotees to follow instructions and cooperate with the authorities to ensure a safe and orderly Brahmotsavams.
