Bank of India Pensioners' and Retirees' Association holds AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Bank of India Pensioners' and Retirees' Association (Mumbai & Goa) was held at MDI, CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai, on August 30, with more than 300 members participating.

Com. Prakash Patki, President of FBOIPARA and Working President of AIBPARC, was the Chief Guest. Com. Mukund Satpute, Joint General Secretary of the federation; Com. M. B. Tripathi, former General Secretary and Chairman of BOIOA, Mumbai & Goa; and Antaryami Sarangi, Dy. Zonal Manager, Navi Mumbai Zone, were the guests of honour. Com. N. D. Wagh, President of the association, presided over the meeting.

In his welcome address, Com. Shekhar Kadam, General Secretary, said consistent follow-ups by retirees' organisations had helped resolve several significant issues. However, he said the struggle continued over unresolved matters such as pension updation, DA parity, removal of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on medical insurance premiums and judicial delays.

He said advances in medical science and improved economic conditions meant that the age of 60 should not mark the end of an active life but rather a new beginning.

Com. R S Trivedi joined the meeting virtually as he was unable to attend in person due to domestic circumstances. He conveyed his greetings to the members and wished the meeting success.

An audio message from General Secretary Com. Harvinder Singh was also played. Expressing regret over his absence, he commended the Mumbai unit for its organisational skills, particularly during the AIBPARC state committee meeting held in Mumbai. He highlighted pension updation and the M C Singla legal case as two key concerns and expressed hope for a favourable outcome at the next hearing on September 9.

Com. Mukund Satpute stressed the need to expand the organisation's membership to strengthen its collective voice. He also spoke about issues taken up and resolved in the bank's structured forum.

Com. M. B. Tripathi expressed support and solidarity with retirees' organisations. He raised concerns over discriminatory practices and reiterated his support for the ongoing fight for pension updation and the Special Allowance.

Antaryami Sarangi, DZM, greeted the participants and expressed respect for the mentors present. He said the new generation of bank employees would continue to work towards the organisation's vision with guidance from experienced retired members.

In his keynote address, Com. Prakash Patki spoke about various issues concerning retirees and the steps taken by the leadership to resolve them. He highlighted the challenges of dealing with authorities that often neglected retirees' concerns.

He said the organisation had resorted to litigation, including cases before the Supreme Court, after other persuasive efforts failed to yield results. Referring to a recent Supreme Court judgment concerning the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and its employees, he said the organisation was using the legal foundation to press for equal compensation for retirees.

Com. Patki said more than 12 petitions from various units concerning anomalies in DA and special allowances had been clubbed together and transferred to the Delhi High Court for a uniform hearing and judgment. He also apprised members of the demand for direct representation of retirees at the highest negotiating forum with the Indian Banks' Association.

Concluding his address, Com. Patki urged members to maintain their health and remain active through social work or hobbies.

The BOIPARA Executive Committee felicitated Com. Patki for his devotion and dedication towards retirees' issues and for attaining the age of 80 in February 2026.

Com. N D Wagh, in his presidential address, thanked the guests and members for attending the meeting.
