The State Bank of India has announced that all its branches will be open on Sunday, September 27, 2026. Despite this, the All India Bank Officers’ Association has recommended that its members not show up for work that day. Meanwhile, the United Forum of Bank Unions is deliberating its response.

Customers planning to visit their bank branch on Sunday, September 27, 2026, may find different instructions from different institutions. While State Bank of India (SBI) has announced that its branches will remain open on Sunday, bank unions have raised questions over the decision amid the proposed three-day bank strike from September 28 to September 30.



The All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA) has advised its members not to report to work on September 27, which it describes as a holiday under the Industrial Disputes Act.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), on the other hand, is yet to take a call on whether it will ask its members to work on the coming Sunday or not?



The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has granted approval for all bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests to remain fully operational on September 27.

Will SBI branches be open on Sunday, September 27?

SBI has informed customers that all its branches will remain open on Sunday, September 27, and operate as usual. SBI posted on its social media today, “Notice for customers: All branches of State Bank of India will remain open on Sunday, September 27, 2026, and will operate as usual. Customers can visit any SBI branch for banking services. SBI is committed to providing continuous and convenient banking facilities to all its customers.”

What did the All India Bank Officers’ Association say?

In a statement dated September 23, the All India Bank Officers’ Association stated, “Our organisation is forced to observe the stay out strike from September 28 to 30, 2026. Our members are advised not to attend the office on Sunday (a holiday declared under the ID act), September 27, 2026.”

What did the UFBU decide?

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) held an urgent online meeting at 10 pm on Wednesday to discuss the issue of staying away from offices on September 27.

The forum decided to first obtain complete details of the instructions issued by different banks. It will then take up the matter with the Indian Banks’ Association.
