Amazon settlement: Amazon Prime customers are eligible to receive their share of a $2.5 billion settlement over the company's business practices. Under the revised order, eligible customers do not need to file a new claim. Amazon will automatically send the Amazon settlement payments to those who qualify. These payments are scheduled to start October 1, 2026.

Amazon Prime customers could receive up to $200 from FTC settlement — Amazon was required to provide $1.5 billion in consumer redress and pay a $1 billion civil penalty.

Amazon Prime customers may now qualify for larger refunds under the $2.5 billion Amazon settlement with the Federal Trade Commission. Under a revised court order, more eligible customers will receive automatic payments, while the maximum total refund has increased from $51 to $200.

The Amazon settlement stems from FTC allegations that Amazon enrolled millions of customers in Prime without their consent and made it difficult for them to cancel. Amazon agreed in 2025 to provide $1.5 billion in consumer refunds and pay a $1 billion civil penalty. As of September 2026, more than $845 million had been distributed to consumers.

How are Amazon settlement payments being expanded?

Under the revised order, Amazon will begin automatically paying additional customers who used 11 to 20 Prime benefits during a 12-month period. These payments are scheduled to start October 1, 2026. Customers do not need to file a new claim or submit additional paperwork.

Payments will be sent by PayPal, Venmo or mailed check and must be accepted within 60 days. Customers who already received a refund may qualify for an additional payment of up to $149, bringing their total Amazon settlement payment to as much as $200.

Who qualifies for the Amazon settlement?

The revised rules cover U.S. Prime customers who:

Enrolled through one of the FTC-challenged Prime sign-up flows or tried to cancel online but could not.
Did so between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025.
Used no more than 20 Prime benefits during any 12-month period after enrollment.
The FTC says eligible customers do not need to submit a claim. Amazon will send payments automatically, with refunds continuing through April 2027.

What was the Amazon settlement about?

The Amazon settlement resolved FTC allegations involving Prime enrollment and cancellation practices. Amazon was required to provide $1.5 billion in consumer redress and pay a $1 billion civil penalty.

The FTC also warns that it will not contact consumers asking for money to obtain their refund. Customers should be cautious of anyone offering guaranteed access to an Amazon settlement payment in exchange for a fee.

How will Amazon settlement payments be made?

Under the revised order, eligible customers do not need to file a new claim. Amazon will automatically send the Amazon settlement payments to those who qualify.

The FTC said the next round of refunds will begin October 1. Payments will be sent by check, Venmo or PayPal, and recipients must accept them within 60 days of the issue date.

Customers who already received an earlier refund could qualify for an additional payment of up to $149, bringing their total Amazon settlement refund to as much as $200. Amazon is expected to continue sending payments through April 2027.
