Amazon halts operations with 21 Air, owner of crashed Miami cargo plane
Synopsis
Amazon has suspended its work with 21 Air LLC following a deadly plane crash. The cargo plane overshot the runway and tragically killed five people on the ground. Investigators are reviewing flight data and cockpit voice recorders from the aircraft. The pilots who were injured in the accident have since been released. Amazon stated safety remains their highest priority in all operations.
ReutersWashington: Amazon said Sunday it is pausing its operations with 21 Air LLC, the company that owned the plane that crashed in Miami last week, killing five people.
"Safety has always been our top priority, whether in our own operations or when we're working with partners," Kelly Nantel, an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement.
"After the tragic incident last weekend, we've spent time supporting the investigation and reviewing some of the surrounding circumstances, and we've decided to pause our operations with 21 Air," Nantel said.
"We'll continue working to support the investigation and everyone affected."
In the September 6 accident, the Boeing 767 cargo plane overshot the runway after landing and crashed into vehicles, killing five people on the ground.
The two pilots who were injured have been released from the hospital.
NTSB chief Jennifer Homendy said Tuesday that officials were reviewing flight data and cockpit voice recorders from the plane.
Flight data released by investigators on Tuesday suggests the plane tried to abort a landing, before it tore through a perimeter fence and slammed into two vehicles.
