Residents forcibly shut down a healing centre at Tirunavaya in Malappuram following allegations of fraud and exploitation in the name of jinn-related healing.

Organisers of the centre operated at Bandharkadavu, Tirunavaya, claimed that people from across Keralam visited the centre seeking healing.

At a programme held last Sunday (September 6, 2026), a man was reportedly presented as being possessed by a jinn. The organisers also auctioned a banana for ₹2,500, claiming that a jinn had blessed it.

Videos of the programme later circulated on social media, prompting widespread criticism. The incident triggered protests by residents, who confronted the organisers and shut down the centre. They have also sought police action against those who ran the centre.
