Air India, Adani Airports launch online duty-free shopping platform for international travellers

Air India and Adani Airports Holdings Limited (AAHL), the country’s largest private airport operator, have launched an integrated online duty-free shopping platform for international travellers.

The new service has been integrated into Air India’s official website and mobile app, allowing eligible passengers to browse products, place orders and make payments online before their journey. Travellers can then collect their packaged purchases from designated duty-free counters at the airport.

Air India online duty-free shopping: How it works

The digital platform allows passengers departing from or arriving at select Indian airports to shop for duty-free products before reaching the airport. Once the order is placed and payment is completed, customers can collect their purchases from designated airport duty-free counters.

The platform covers a wide range of products, including premium cosmetics and fragrances, luxury chocolates and confectionery, consumer electronics and spirits.

Air India duty-free shopping offers up to 25% discount

As part of the launch, passengers can get introductory discounts of up to 25% on standard retail shelf prices. The airline said customers can also combine these discounts with eligible bank offers and seasonal privileges, potentially adding to the savings.

The online format is aimed at giving international travellers an opportunity to compare and purchase products before their journey rather than waiting until they reach the airport.

Maharaja Club members to earn loyalty points

The new duty-free shopping service is also linked to Air India’s Maharaja Club loyalty programme. Eligible members will automatically earn points on qualifying purchases made through the platform.

"In addition to introductory discounts of up to 25%, the partnership embeds loyalty rewards into the retail flow: members of Air India's Maharaja Club loyalty program will automatically earn 3 Maharaja Points for every INR 100 spent on eligible duty-free transactions," the statement mentioned.

Which airports offer Air India online duty-free shopping?

The service is currently available to passengers travelling to and from airports with duty-free hubs in Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram.

The service is also available to eligible customers travelling on codeshare itineraries, including flights operated by Air India Express.

The companies plan to expand the platform to additional domestic and international gateways in subsequent phases.

Air India and Adani Airports expand digital travel services

The partnership brings together Air India’s digital customer platform and Adani Airports’ airport retail operations. The companies said the aim is to make duty-free shopping a more integrated part of the passenger journey.

From planning a trip and ordering products online to collecting purchases at the airport and earning loyalty points, the service is designed to cover the entire duty-free shopping process digitally.

The launch comes as airlines and airports increasingly look to move more parts of the passenger experience online, including shopping, payments and other services linked to air travel.
