YSR Congress Party district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy accused the ruling NDA government of resorting to rampant corruption and not fulfilling the promises made ahead of the elections.

During his visit to various villages in the Venkatachalam mandal of the Sarvepalli constituency on Sunday (August 16, 2026), Mr. Govardhan Reddy interacted with the public and received feedback on their grievances. It was during one such conversation that some of the villagers reportedly brought to his attention the alleged plundering of natural resources such as sand, gravel, and quartz from their backyard.

He warned the sitting MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy to be ready for a public debate on the scores of issues raised by him in the past. “I challenge you to swear at Kanipakam Varasiddhi Vinayaka temple if you are not corrupt,” he said. (It is an ancient practice to swear in public at the Kanipakam temple near Chittoor to prove one’s honesty).

The government has failed to provide irrigation water to the tail-end regions of the constituency, but the ruling party leaders are busy with their corrupt practices, he stated.

Mr. Reddy also accused the TDP leaders of having kept the district officials under a tight leash, not allowing them to function independently.
