Yash’s Toxic off to a flying start, clocks Rs 19.66 crore in Day 1 advance bookings

The advance bookings for Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown Ups are off to a flying start ever since the makers opened ticket sales on Friday, August 21. In a day’s time, the film has recorded an advance booking collection of Rs 11.92 crore, with Rs 7.6 crore coming in only from Karnataka. After including blocked seats, the film’s Day 1 advance booking gross stands at Rs 19.66 crore. The film, which is scheduled to release in multiple languages on August 26, will mark Yash’s return to the big screen after nearly four years.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Toxic has sold 2,72,420 tickets across 9,071 shows through its Day 1 advance bookings. Interestingly, the buzz around the film is not limited to Karnataka, with states such as Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Odisha also witnessing multiple fast-filling shows.
According to BookMyShow, a majority of the Kannada shows in Bengaluru for the release date are almost full, while the Hindi version is also filling up fast. A similar trend is being witnessed in Kerala and Delhi-NCR. However, ticket bookings for Chennai are not available on the app yet. This could be due to a phased rollout, with regional hubs such as Chennai often updating their ticketing portals slightly later.

On Friday, just hours after advance bookings went live, the film had earned Rs 4.10 crore from 4,886 shows after selling 84,915 tickets, excluding blocked seats. Including blocked seats, the advance booking gross stood at Rs 9.19 crore.
First announced in December 2023, Toxic took nearly three years to complete and is finally set to hit theatres after multiple delays. The film was originally scheduled to release on March 19 alongside Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge. However, the makers announced on Holi that the release would be pushed to June, citing the prevailing war situation. The film was later postponed again to August.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic also stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth in key roles. The film was shot simultaneously in Kannada and English.

Toxic will be competing with Yash’s previous release, KGF Chapter 2, which opened to Rs 134.49 crore gross on its first day. It remains to be seen whether Toxic can surpass that figure and emerge as Yash’s biggest opener to date. Its competition will also come from A-rated films such as Dhurandhar and Animal, which opened at Rs 28 crore India net and Rs 76.10 crore, respectively. Meanwhile, Dhurandhar: The Revenge had a massive opening of Rs 102 crore.
