Woman dies after jumping from seventh floor of PG in Whitefield; man sustains multiple injuries

A 23-year-old woman died after allegedly jumping from the seventh floor of a paying guest accommodation in Whitefield along with a 30-year-old man on Sunday. The man survived the fall but suffered grievous injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Janani Perumal, 23, a software engineer working with a private company in Pattandur Agrahara. Originally from Puducherry, she was staying at a PG accommodation on ECC Road, Whitefield.
The injured man, Manichavelu, 30, is employed with a logistics company in Puducherry and is a resident of Nallathur in the Union Territory.
According to the Whitefield police, the two went to the seventh floor of Radha Krishna Co-Live PG on ECC Road and allegedly jumped from the building.
Janani died on the spot, while Manichavelu sustained multiple injuries and was shifted to a hospital. Residents alerted the police, following which the police reached the spot and shifted the woman’s body for post-mortem.
“The extent of his injuries is being ascertained. He is likely to have suffered multiple fractures. We are investigating what forced the duo to take the extreme step,” a police officer said.
The police are verifying the background of both individuals and examining whether they were known to each other or were in a relationship. The exact circumstances that led to the incident are yet to be established.
