Barron Trump “doesn’t go out, is pretty reclusive”: Why Donald Trump’s youngest son is keeping a low profile and avoiding public outings at 20
Synopsis
Barron Trump is keeping a low profile and avoiding public outings at 20 after Iranian hardliners reportedly targeted him with a video titled “Where to kill Barron Trump” and a $10 million bounty. The president’s youngest son, who recently completed his sophomore year at NYU, has largely stayed out of the spotlight as security concerns surrounding his family continue.

Barron Trump is keeping a low profile and avoiding public outings at age 20 after Iranian hardliners reportedly targeted him with a video titled “Where to kill Barron Trump” and a $10 million bounty. The threat has added to security concerns around Donald Trump’s youngest son, who has largely stayed out of public view while continuing his college life and spending time with his mother, first lady Melania Trump.
Barron recently completed his sophomore year at New York University and has reportedly spent much of the summer with Melania at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey.

People familiar with the Trump family told the New York Post that the 20-year-old rarely goes out, reports The New York Post. “He doesn’t go out,” one longtime Trumpworld figure told the publication. Another source described Barron as “pretty reclusive.”
Why Barron is staying out of the spotlight
Barron's private lifestyle has become more noticeable as security concerns surrounding the Trump family have increased.
Donald Trump has faced multiple serious security incidents since July 2024, including the assassination attempt at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and a separate incident involving a suspected gunman near his Florida golf course.

Barron has also been directly targeted in threats. According to the New York Post, Iranian hardliners recently released a video titled “Where to kill Barron Trump” and claimed it showed information about the first son's movements. The report also said the video included a $10 million bounty on Barron.

Barron has become increasingly private
Unlike several members of the Trump family, Barron has never appeared eager to build a public profile. His older siblings have embraced public life in different ways. Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump remain involved in the family business, while Ivanka Trump has maintained a public presence through social media, interviews and podcasts.

Barron has taken a different route. He has largely stayed away from political events, interviews and social media, choosing instead to keep his education, friendships and daily activities private.
One person familiar with the first family told the Post that Barron moves quickly into private areas when he arrives at a property. “You don’t see him hanging around,” the source said.
Melania Trump has always protected Barron’s privacy
Melania Trump has long been particularly protective of her son. Her office recently asked the media to respect Barron's privacy following the latest threats.
The Office of the First Lady told the Post that “in light of recent threats” the East Wing requested that details concerning Barron's private life be left out of coverage.

Melania has previously acknowledged that her son prefers to stay away from public attention. In her documentary about the period surrounding Donald Trump's second inauguration, she discussed the possibility of the family taking part in an inaugural parade.
Speaking to Secret Service agents, Melania said: “I know Barron won’t go out. And I respect that.” The comment offered a glimpse into Barron's personality and his preference for privacy.
The impact of Charlie Kirk’s death
Barron's private nature has also been discussed in connection with the September 2025 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. According to the Post, Barron had become close to Kirk and was deeply affected by his death.
The report says Barron told his father after learning about the shooting: “This is what happens when you go out there.” The account was first reported by authors Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan in their book Regime Change and was later confirmed by the Post.
The incident may help explain why security and public appearances can carry particular significance for Barron.
Barron’s life at NYU
Barron has completed his sophomore year at New York University while keeping his college life largely private. His decision to stay away from the spotlight is notable because his family name guarantees an unusual level of public attention.
Even his living arrangements reflect his need for privacy. According to the Post, Barron has private spaces at his parents' properties, including a suite at Mar-a-Lago and his own floor at Trump Tower.
At the White House, his room reportedly included custom furniture designed for his 6-foot-9 frame.
What could Barron do after college?
Barron's future also appears to be moving in a different direction from his father's political career. There are indications that he may be more interested in business than politics.
According to the Post, Barron has worked with friends on an herbal energy drink business and has invested in cryptocurrency. He has reportedly preferred to stay behind the scenes rather than promote these ventures publicly.
His niece Kai Trump has previously acknowledged his preference for privacy. “He doesn’t like the public eye so much, which I understand,” Kai said earlier this year.
Barron does occasionally appear alongside his parents. He was last seen publicly on July 19, when he joined Donald and Melania Trump at MetLife Stadium to watch the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
