Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Sheru, the pet dog who was left alone after three members of the Chandgude family died in a tragic incident at Khavda Hill, has found a new home. A viral video shows the Indie dog being cared for by his new owner after being adopted.

Sheru Finds A New Family

The video was shared on Instagram by animal welfare activist Rakhi Thakur through the page dharmas__tale. In the footage, Sheru can be seen with a leash around his neck, with separate bowls of food and water placed near him. A man, identified by Thakur as Mane, is seen caring for and showing Sheru on camera.

In her voiceover, Thakur said Sheru had been part of the Chandgude family for around five years and was well cared for by them. She said the dog was later rescued and was at risk of being taken to an Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre.

Thakur said Mane, who already cares for several Indian dogs, decided to adopt Sheru. She claimed he has around 10 to 12 Indie dogs at his home and would now take responsibility for Sheru’s care as well.

Tragic Incident At Khavda Hill

The development comes days after a heartbreaking scene was reported at the Chandgude family’s residence. The family’s pet dog had reportedly remained outside their vacant home after 18-year-old Kunal Chandgude and his parents, Murlidhar and Sangita Chandgude, died in a tragic incident at Khavda Hill.

According to reports, the incident unfolded on Friday last week when Kunal reportedly stood near the edge of the hill and threatened to jump. His parents, villagers and police personnel spent nearly three hours trying to persuade him to move away from the edge.

During the final 15 to 20 minutes, Kunal’s father climbed up the hill and attempted to intervene. At around 1 pm, he reportedly tried to grab his son, following which both lost their balance and fell from the hill. Moments later, Kunal’s mother also fell while attempting to respond to the situation. All three died in the incident.

Following the tragedy, neighbours reportedly said Sheru refused food and continued sitting near the entrance of the family’s empty home. Residents had attempted to feed him through a window, but the dog allegedly did not eat.

Videos and reports of Sheru waiting outside the house had prompted concern among animal lovers. The latest video now shows the dog in his new surroundings, being provided with food, water and care.

Thakur also urged people not to unnecessarily portray Sheru as being unable to cope after the loss of his owners. She said dogs can adapt to new surroundings and appealed for responsible handling and adoption of animals left without caregivers after tragedies. Sheru is now expected to remain with his new owner, who will take responsibility for his continued care.
