Rainfall deficiency: Free online training on crop management on August 30

A free online training programme on the theme “Lack of Rainfall: What Next? Living with Climate Change” will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday to create awareness among farmers about selection of crop varieties, alternative crops and effective irrigation management strategies in view of the inadequate rainfall in Cauvery command area.

The special online training programme will be organised by the Department of Horticulture, Kisan Mall and Desi Seed Producers’ Company in collaboration with subject experts to help the farmers cope with the challenges arising out of inadequate rainfall and water shortage this year.

While Joint Director, Department of Horticulture, Mysuru District, Roopashree K. N. will deliver the introductory remarks and provide guidance on strategies for managing horticultural crops amid erratic rainfall, Head of the Department of Agronomy, Mandya Agricultural University, S.B. Yogananda will speak on “Efficient Use of Water and Irrigation Management Strategies”.

Head of ICAR–KVK Suttur Gnanesh B. N., will speak on “Improved Crop Varieties Suitable for Cultivation Under Water-Scarcity Conditions” and renowned rice conservationist Shivalli Boregowda will speak on “Drought-Resistant Traditional and Indigenous Varieties”. Ranjani R. of Kisan Mall will coordinate and facilitate the online training programme.
