A 23-year-old man was stabbed to death by two men in northeast Delhi's Sundar Nagri after they allegedly demanded tobacco from him and his cousin which they refused, police said on Saturday.
The victim, Abhishek, was among four persons attacked by the accused on August 15. He succumbed to his injuries at GTB Hospital at 1:05 am on Saturday, following which a murder charge was added to the case, police said.
The accused, Arshad alias Chikna, was arrested after police analysed CCTV footage from the area and showed photographs of suspected persons to the complainant, a senior officer said.
According to the police, Abhishek's brother Sachin and their cousin Vishal were on their way to work when two men intercepted them near Shiv Shakti Mandir in Sundar Nagri. One of the accused allegedly demanded tobacco and threatened them with a knife.
"When Sachin informed Abhishek, he was advised to return home. The two men were allegedly chased by the assailants, who later attacked Sachin, Vishal, Abhishek and their cousin Vinod. The injured were taken to GTB Hospital, where they were undergoing treatment. An FIR was registered at Nand Nagri police station," the officer said.
During interrogation, Arshad admitted his involvement and told police that the knife had been kept with his associate. Police are conducting raids to arrest the co-accused and recover the weapon.
