‘Life changes in minutes’: Amitabh Bachchan on seeing KBC contestants rebuild their lives

As the 18th season of the blockbuster television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) progresses at full throttle, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has taken to his blog to share his experience hosting the show and witnessing people rebuilding their lives with the money they earn.
Opening up about the emotional impact of seeing people from humble backgrounds achieve their dreams through KBC, he asserted that it is the audience and the contestants who truly make the show special. He also discussed how KBC has transformed some lives in just minutes.

“It be the contestants that make the show… the audience that sits for hours as audience on set… it is they… their brilliance, their stories that rise from the lesser means to accomplish the dreams beyond… moving, emotional, but at the end, when achievement comes, their joys and their tears of happy emotion. That is KBC… A life changes in a few hours… at times in minutes,” Amitabh Bachchan noted.
He added, “May all survive with the blessings of their knowledge and gyaan. Happy endings to all.”

The 18th edition of Kaun Banega Crorepati premiered on Monday, August 10, with Amitabh Bachchan returning as host for the 15th consecutive year. Barring the third edition, when Shah Rukh Khan headlined it, Big B has hosted the popular game show 17 times, starting with KBC Season 1 in 2000.

Recently, a contestant from Mumbai, Ruchita Adhalrao, had made headlines after walking away with Rs 50 lakh from KBC 18, thereby fulfilling her and her family’s dream of having a permanent home. During her time on the game show, Ruchita revealed that she’s an SSC aspirant but can’t afford books, coaching, or classes.
She added that she downloads YouTube videos on public Wi-Fi and studies using them. She also shared that her family doesn’t celebrate birthdays or festivals because they can’t afford new clothes, cakes, or anything luxurious. Ruchita could indeed be described as one of the many people whose lives KBC changed.
