BJP unit of Andhra Pradesh on Monday sought a comprehensive probe into the deaths of Pithapuram Panchayat Raj Assistant Engineer Nookaraju’s family, covering angles of blackmail, threats, financial exploitation and attempted forced religious conversion.

State BJP chief P.V.N. Madhav demanded that the government take stringent action against Sk. Sadhik Khan, who is facing abetment of suicide charges in the case. On “love jihad” allegations made by the victim’s family, Mr. Madhav said that legal action must be based on evidence and investigation, not on religious identity.

He urged the DGP Harish Gupta and Home Minister Vangalapudi Anita to disclose details of complaints relating to harassment of women and girls, FIRs registered, investigations completed and action taken against accused persons. “Crime must be treated as crime irrespective of the religion, caste or political connections of the accused,” The State BJP chief said, adding that the party would continue to press for justice and raise women’s safety concerns across the State.

Meanwhile, BJP spokespersons Sadineni Yamini Sharma and Valluru Jayaprakash Narayana also demanded justice for the family. Mr. Narayana said claims of extremist links, if any, should also be examined, but stressed that such allegations must be established through evidence and lawful investigation.

The BJP leaders called for greater awareness about cyber blackmail, misuse of private photographs, online harassment and financial fraud.
