The State-run Keltron has received self-certification rights from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of three of its products.

The products are an electromagnetic log used for measuring a ship’s speed, an echosounder used for measuring the depth below a ship’s keel and an underwater telephone system for ship-to-submarine communication. The Directorate General of Quality Assurance, Ministry of Defence, awarded the ‘self-certification status’ after examining the quality systems, quality control practices and product quality.

Rear Admiral T. Ajit, Additional Director General, Quality Assurance, handed over the certificate to Keltron managing director Sreekumar Nair in the presence of Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty here the other day.

Keltron handed over two of its products, the electromagnetic log and the echosounder, to the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard respectively. Further, it has also received an additional order for manufacturing submarine echosounders for the Indian Navy, a statement said.

As part of the State government’s 100 days programme, the Industries department had proposed a project for Keltron to innovate and introduce new products tailored for defence applications.
