Ravindra Jadeja creates history, becomes first Indian to feature in 50 WTC matches

Synopsis

Ravindra Jadeja achieved a significant milestone by playing his 50th World Test Championship match. This historic achievement occurred during India's second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo. The veteran all-rounder reached this landmark as India made one change to their playing XI. Saransh Jain made his debut for India, replacing Kuldeep Yadav due to an infection.

Ravindra Jadeja created history on Sunday by becoming the first Indian cricketer to feature in 50 World Test Championship (WTC) matches.



The 37-year-old all-rounder reached the landmark during India's second and final Test against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.



Jadeja's 50th WTC appearance came as India made one change to their playing XI for the Colombo Test. Off-spin all-rounder Saransh Jain made his India debut, replacing Kuldeep Yadav, who missed the match due to an infection.

Jadeja presented Jain with his India debut cap during the team huddle before the start of play.



India won the toss and elected to bat first for the second consecutive Test. The visitors lead the two-match series 1-0, having defeated Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the first Test in Galle.




Jadeja's latest milestone adds another record to the veteran all-rounder's Test career. His 50 WTC appearances make him the first Indian player to reach the mark since the championship began in 2019.

Sri Lanka: Lahiru Udara, Kamil Mishara, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Kamindu Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva (captain), Sonal Dinusha, Niroshan Dickwella (wicketkeeper), Keshara Nuwantha, Prabath Jayasuriya, Lahiru Kumara, Asitha Fernando.
