Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that plans were afoot to establish an ‘Integrated Solid Waste Management Project – Transfer Station and Processing Unit’ in Karimnagar to find a permanent solution to the dumping yard problem in the city.

The project would facilitate collection of waste generated in the city, segregation at the processing centre, recycling and scientific disposal of the residual waste, he said.

Mr. Sanjay laid the foundation stone for drainage pipeline and CC road works at an estimated cost of ₹70 lakh under the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF) in Division 45 of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (MCK) on Monday.

In a statement, he said solid waste management proposals worth ₹80 crore had been prepared to address the dumping yard issue in Karimnagar.

He said model roads covering about 50 km would be developed with ₹630 crore under the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF). Foot-over-bridges would be constructed near the District Court, Civil Hospital and Geetha Bhavan Chowrasta. A skywalk, similar to the one at Uppal in Hyderabad, would be constructed near the Karimnagar bus station, besides developing major traffic junctions, he said.

Mr. Sanjay said 130 electric vehicles would be procured to provide pollution-free transport facilities in the city. Proposals had also been prepared for the construction and development of stormwater drains over a length of 80 km to ensure smooth discharge of rainwater from the city.

Asserting that largescale funds were being brought to the MCK from the Central government, he said Karimnagar would be developed as a model city in all spheres.

Mr. Sanjay condemned the alleged throwing of black paint by Youth Congress activists at the BJP State office gate in Hyderabad during a protest on Monday.

He demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the incident and for allegedly burning an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in front of the BJP State office.
