Anurag Kashyap’s Bengaluru home offers a glimpse into his personal world. The minimal space blends earthy tones, vintage-inspired furniture, extensive film collections and books.

The filmmaker and his partner, Shubhra Shetty, hosted film journalist Janice Sequira, giving her a look at the lush green gated society where the couple lives.

The home’s dining area features a solid light-oak table surrounded by rust-orange upholstered chairs, an armchair and a ribbed corduroy bench finished with leather straps. Four tall, light-wood bookcases line the wall behind the dining table, packed with books, media collections, framed artwork, and ceramic vases. Cream marble flooring, neutral walls and plants in terracotta pots add warmth to the space.

The living room follows a similarly relaxed aesthetic. A plush light-yellow sectional takes centre stage, complemented by a brown suede lounge daybed and two mid-century-style woven cane armchairs with rust-coloured cushions. A square dark-wood coffee table and a round fluted-oak table sit over a large grey-brown rug laid across the marble floor.

Floor-to-ceiling glass patio doors bring in natural light and are framed by rich teal curtains. The living space also features a wall-mounted television, low storage credenzas and indoor plants, giving the space a lived-in feel.

A separate console nook continues the film-and-book theme in the living space. A long, dark-wood console is filled with box sets, Blu-rays and books, while framed abstract textured artwork hangs above it. Stacked books, a potted pothos and a white vase holding a palm plant complete the arrangement. A retro cream-and-brown geometric rug adds another vintage touch.

One of the most distinctive spaces in Kashyap’s home is the media room and library nook. Floor-to-ceiling dark-wood shelves cover an entire wall and are filled with an extensive collection of DVDs, Blu-rays and CDs. The filmmaker’s fondness for cinema is reflected in the sheer volume of physical media on display.

The seating in the room is kept low and informal, with a forest-green patterned chaise lounge, a yellow patterned daybed and a beige sofa. Deep wood tones and layered textiles make the space feel particularly cosy.

The kitchen, meanwhile, brings a more contemporary look to the home. It features modern light-wood lower cabinets and full-height pantry units paired with matte-white upper cabinets. A wide central island with a polished black granite countertop dominates the space, with open shelving underneath and a prominent black box chimney hood above it.

White quartz countertops, a dishwasher, and open wooden shelving for spices add to the kitchen’s functional design, while light ceramic floor tiles keep the space bright.

The home also opens out to a modern balcony with white tiles and a seamless glass railing. Beyond it is a dense canopy of lush tropical trees, giving the outdoor space a green setting.

Khyathi Jetwani & Manish Jetwani, Founder, IRRA Luxury Living, noted that celebrity home tours and Instagram have changed what clients or homeowners expect from luxury interiors. The experts highlighted that digital platforms have dramatically expanded people’s visual vocabulary.

“Clients are exposed to beautifully designed homes from around the world every day, making them more design-aware than ever before,” they said.

The experts added, “Interestingly, while social media inspires aspiration, it has also created a desire for individuality. Homeowners no longer want their spaces to look like someone else’s Pinterest board. They are looking for homes that feel collected rather than curated—spaces layered with art, craftsmanship, travel, and personal stories.”
