ET WLF 2026: India has what the world longs for – stable leadership, says Satyan Gajwani, Chairman, Times Internet
Synopsis
Welcoming Prime Minister Modi to the World Leaders Forum, Gajwani drew an analogy with Homer's Odyssey, saying the ancient tale of a protagonist navigating one crisis after another was "something of a parable for our times today." "When we look around the world, at least if we believe the headlines, we're lurching from one crisis to the next," Gajwani said, pointing to two ongoing wars, an energy crisis, disruption of shipping routes, trade battles, nuclear threats and an AI surge sucking in unprecedented amounts of capital.

India has benefited from more than a decade of political stability under Prime Minister Narendra Modi as wars, energy disruption, trade tensions and the artificial intelligence revolution reshape the global economy, said Satyan Gajwani, chairman, Times Internet.
Welcoming Prime Minister Modi to the World Leaders Forum, Gajwani drew an analogy with Homer's Odyssey, saying the ancient tale of a protagonist navigating one crisis after another was "something of a parable for our times today."
"When we look around the world, at least if we believe the headlines, we're lurching from one crisis to the next," Gajwani said, pointing to two ongoing wars, an energy crisis, disruption of shipping routes, trade battles, nuclear threats and an AI surge sucking in unprecedented amounts of capital.
He also flagged "a crisis in leadership in ending wars, restoring normalcy and inspiring trust." The simultaneous nature of these disruptions had created a palpable global longing for leadership that could provide stability.
Against this backdrop, Gajwani said India was fortunate to have a leader who had provided stability to the country and region for more than 12 years. He said stable, long-serving leaders capable of repeatedly winning voters' trust could give a nation a sense of "unity, security, and confidence… That no matter what the challenge is, we will deal with it together, and we are in good hands. That we shall overcome."

Gajwani linked that sense of confidence to India's economic performance and technological transformation. He cited India's position as the fastest-growing large economy for much of the past decade, the expansion of digital public infrastructure, improvements in ease of doing business and quality of life, and the country's manufacturing, semiconductor and data centre push.
He also highlighted the country's emerging entrepreneurial and technological ambitions, pointing to developments by Indian startups in space technology, rocket engines, cancer drug research and nuclear fusion.

"All of this-a nation's energy, its self-belief, the dreams of its youth, the audacity of its entrepreneurs, the resilience of its farmers, and indeed its destiny-all essentially flow from stable, long-term leadership," Gajwani said.
Based around the theme of Shared Futures: Secure, Intelligent, Resilient, WLF brought together more than 40 global leaders to exchange ideas, explore partnerships and listen to one another.
Gajwani said Modi had "navigated the country through many challenges with a steady hand," including ensuring energy security amid a tumultuous external environment and protecting more than a billion people during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He ended by saying that while another crisis could be around the corner, "with Modi's leadership at the helm and all of our efforts, there is no challenge, no crisis, and no adversary that we cannot defeat."
