A Mumbai woman told Hindustantimes.com about building a business in Sweden after being fired, while keeping investments in India.

Starting over in a foreign country can shatter your confidence, but it can also reveal your true strength. When Mumbai-born Jyoti Wakchaure moved to Gothenburg, Sweden, on a dependent visa, she never expected to build her own digital company. Speaking with Hindustantimes.com, she opened up about the raw reality of navigating immigrant life. After facing a shocking, abrupt firing from her job, she turned adversity into ambition by launching a social media agency during the pandemic. Today, earning a decent income while balancing investments in India, she credits the Scandinavian lifestyle with helping her rediscover her identity and voice.

Wakchaure described how her life has been by sharing her best and worst memories after relocating. “My best memory would be of course when my daughter was born in Sweden and I got to experience this beautiful moment in the old fashion way (natural birth) and it was extremely special.”

She recounted, “My worst memory/experience would be when I got fired from my job without any prior information and it was pretty shocking. It was quite sudden and unfair.”

When did she relocate?

The expat said she relocated in 2016, adding, “My husband got a job offer and so I moved on a dependent visa.”

How did she start her business?

The founder told Hindustantimes.com, “I started my content creation as a side hustle and my YouTube channel in 2018 and then started my company in 2020 during the pandemic, offering social media marketing services to local small businesses. As my YouTube channel grew and my network within Sweden grew, I started working with Swedish clients too.”

How much does she earn?

Wakchaure revealed, “ ₹1 lakh per month on average.”

Talking about her investments, she continued, “I mostly have my investments in India as in property and recently started investing in Sweden as well. My business expenses are about 15000 ₹for apps and editing software. My expenses are limited as I mostly work from home and do not need an office space which is a huge saving in itself.”

“Sweden changed me”

“I think I have changed a lot after moving to Sweden. There are pros and cons to every place but I think I became more calm, kind, punctual, independent and started liking the ways of Sweden. I am grateful that I have built my career and life in Sweden. I rediscovered myself and found a new identity,” Wakchaure said.
