England’s Brydon Carse handcuffed by police outside nightclub, Ben Stokes seen in background

Fast bowler Brydon Carse has become the latest England player to be embroiled in a light-night incident at a nightclub as he was seen being handcuffed by police in a video that has been doing the rounds of social media. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) later said that it is “currently investigating” the incident which was reported to have taken place in Derby.
“We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night, and are currently investigating. We will provide a further update when possible,” said the ECB.
It has been further reported in the English media that Carse was not arrested and had been released without charge. The pacer was at the nightclub celebrating Durham’s County Championship win over Derbyshire. In the video, which has also been posted by The Telegraph, Carse can be seen in handcuffs and speaking with speaking to his Durham team-mate Matthew Potts. Ben Stokes, England’s ex-captain, who bowled Durham to victory on Saturday, is also in the background of the video.

Carse is part of the England squad for their first two Tests against Pakistan but was released during the first match to play in the County Championship for Durham.
The incident comes close on the heels of Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson being investigated by the ECB for another incident at a nightclub during England’s series against New Zealand, which they lost 2-1. Stokes went on to announce his retirement from international cricket at the end of that series.
A few months earlier, England’s off-field behaviour came under heavy scrutiny during their tours of New Zealand and Australia. England were accused of having a “drinking culture” in their dressing room, with their behaviour during a controversial mid-series break during a rather disastrous Ashes in Australia especially coming under scrutiny.
It later emerged that England’s limited-overs captain Harry Brook was involved in an incident in a nightclub during the tour of New Zealand that happened before the Ashes. The fact that the incident had happened on the night before the third match of a series that England had already lost 2-0 and went on to be swept clean 3-0 only added more fuel to the fire. Moreover, the news came out in the form of a leak more than a month later while England were struggling to compete with Australia in the Ashes and the ECB had quietly investigated the incident internally and reprimanded Brook.
