Prosecutors in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial ended their closing arguments with a chilling description of what happened to her three young children. “She left them discarded on the basement floor like broken toys because she was done playing the game,” prosecutors told jurors.
The statement came as both sides delivered closing arguments Wednesday in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Jurors must now decide whether Clancy is criminally responsible for the deaths of her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.

What prosecutors told the jury
Prosecutors from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office argued that Clancy intentionally killed her children and planned the attack. “She killed them and she left them there on the floor,” prosecutors said while describing the killings.
The prosecution's argument directly challenges Clancy's defense, which says she was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time of the deaths.

Who is Lindsay Clancy?
Lindsay Clancy, 36, is a Massachusetts woman who is charged with murder in the deaths of her children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. She hasn't disputed killing them but has pleaded not guilty to murder by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. Lindsay Clancy was on maternity leave from her job as a labor and delivery nurse when the children were strangled on Jan. 24, 2023. She has been in custody since.
What happened to her family?
Lindsay Clancy trial and postpartum psychosis defense
Clancy, 36, has not disputed that she killed her children. She has pleaded not guilty to murder by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. Her defense team argues that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, a rare but severe mental health emergency that can cause a person to lose touch with reality.
Clancy had been on maternity leave from her job as a labor and delivery nurse when her children were killed on January 24, 2023.
Jury now faces key decision
The jury must ultimately determine whether Clancy can be held criminally responsible for the deaths. Prosecutors say the evidence points to intentional killings.
The defense maintains that her mental state made her legally not responsible for her actions. After the closing arguments, jurors will weigh the competing accounts before reaching their verdict in a case that has drawn widespread attention.
