Will Modi reshuffle his Cabinet?
Once again, there is strong speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may reshuffle his Cabinet after August 20. If the rumours are to be believed, six to eight new faces may be inducted. At present, six Cabinet ministers are holding two or more portfolios. Ashwini Vashnav holds three portfolios and Pralhad Joshi also holds three, while Manohar Lal, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya and Amit Shah hold two portfolios each. Some of these portfolios may be reallocated.
Governors' appointments likely this month?
Whispers in the corridors of power suggest that the Centre may appoint new Governors in half a dozen states. At present, the Governors of UP and Karnataka are among the longest-serving. Anandi Ben Patel has been in gubernatorial office since 2018, when she was first appointed Governor of Chhattisgarh. In January 2018, she became Governor of Madhya Pradesh. The following year, she was given additional charge of UP Lok Bhawan, and in 2021, she was appointed Governor of UP, where she continues to serve. Likewise, Thawar Chand Gehlot assumed office as Governor of Karnataka on July 11, 2021, and continues in the post.

With heavy rains lashing most parts of the country, several dams and reservoirs are full. The Ranjit Sagar dam on the Ravi is close to overflowing, while Narmada dams across MP and Gujarat are brimming. All dams on the Krishna in Maharashtra and Karnataka are full. Three dams on the Cauvery river are overflowing, while only Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) is short of its full-tank level. Pong Dam on the Beas River in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh is overflowing at 1,390-1,400 feet. However, Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) dam levels are being kept low to accommodate any surplus rainwater.

Govt to constitute high-level committee on banking for Viksit Bharat
