The number of people from Karnataka reported stranded or missing in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) following flash floods has risen to 28, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) informed on August 29.

Of the 28 people, 23 are from Bengaluru Urban, two from Mysuru, and one each from Dharwad, Udupi and Vijayanagara districts, according to the latest information compiled by the SEOC as of 10 a.m. on August 29.

Most of those reported stranded or missing are believed to be in Timure in Rasuwa district in Nepal, while a few are in Darchen in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Four of the 28 persons have been confirmed safe and are transiting to Nepal, while search and tracing efforts are continuing to locate the remaining 24.

The flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border and adjoining areas have caused loss of life and extensive damage to critical infrastructure, disrupting road connectivity, and movement in several areas.

The Karnataka government stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and are in touch with officials in the Ministry of External Affairs and Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi to co-ordinate rescue efforts.

Infosys Public Services CEO Lax Gopisetty unreachable

Infosys Public Services CEO Lax Gopisetty, who was in Nepal on a personal visit, has been unreachable following the devastating floods , according to the company.

The company said its primary concern was Mr Gopisetty’s safety and well-being. It was coordinating with the relevant authorities and agencies to obtain information about his whereabouts, and re-establish contact with him.

“We remain in close communication with the family and are providing all necessary support during this difficult time,” the company stated.

Infosys added that its thoughts were with Mr. Gopisetty, his family, and others affected by the floods.
