    Two MLAs were among several people injured after an out-of-control car crashed into an SUV at the ITO traffic signal in Delhi on Sunday, police said. The accident took place in front of the old Police Headquarters.

    The SUV was carrying Anil Jha, the sitting MLA from Kirari Vidhan Sabha, and Abhay Patil, an MLA from Karnataka, when the collision occurred. All those involved sustained minor injuries and were taken to LNJP Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition, news agency ANI reported.

    How the ITO crash happened

    According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) Rohit Ranbir Singh, the IP Estate police station received a call about the accident at around 9.30pm. Police teams reached the spot and found two damaged vehicles, both bearing Delhi registration numbers.

    “As per the preliminary inquiry, the hatchback was being driven by a 32-year-old resident of Delhi’s Arya Nagar, who was travelling towards ITO from Laxmi Nagar along with his wife and two minor children,” Singh was quoted as saying by a report published earlier.

    Near the PWD office, the car hit the road divider and then crossed the railing. It entered the opposite carriageway and collided with the SUV travelling from ITO towards Laxmi Nagar.

    Regarding the occupants of the SUV and their current medical status, the police added: "The Innova was occupied by Anil Jha, sitting MLA from Kirari Vidhan Sabha, and Abhay Patil, MLA from Karnataka. All persons sustained minor injuries and were shifted to LNJP Hospital. All are in stable condition."

    The collision caused extensive damage to the front section of the SUV. Fire Brigade personnel were called to the spot to help remove the damaged vehicles from the road and restore traffic movement.
