Closed Stone Quarries to Serve as Immersion Sites to Safeguard City Lakes
Vasai-Virar :- The Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation is gearing up for an environmentally conscious Ganeshotsav celebration in 2023. Under the banner of ‘Eco Ganesha Ganeshotsav 2023,’ the municipality is prioritizing eco-friendliness and pollution prevention in this year’s festivities.
In a notable move, the Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation has decided against immersing Ganesha idols in the city’s lakes, instead opting to use closed stone quarries located outside the city. To implement this plan, the municipal authorities recently conducted inspections of two identified stone quarries, Valaipada and Rajivli, as well as the jetties at Killabandar and Chikhaldongari.
The inspection, led by Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anil Kumar Pawar, included Deputy Commissioner Nanasaheb Kamthe, Deputy Commissioner Samir Bhumkar, and Deputy Engineer Prakash Satam. Their primary objective is to ensure that the immersion of Ganesha idols in these stone quarries proceeds in an organized and environmentally responsible manner.
To further safeguard the city’s lakes from pollution during Ganeshotsav immersion, the municipality will construct artificial ponds and moving wells within the city limits. An artificial lake and an idol collection center will also be established, offering devotees a convenient alternative to immersing their idols in the 20 main lakes of the city.
As part of the awareness campaign, meetings with Ganeshotsav Mandals are being organized in each ward, with the cooperation of the municipality and local police, to educate them about this initiative. All Ganesha idols will be immersed in the designated stone quarries, ensuring a cleaner and more eco-friendly celebration.
The Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation’s commitment to preserving natural resources and preventing pollution during Ganeshotsav marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible festival in 2023.
