Navi Mumbai :- In a remarkable display of devotion and environmental consciousness, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation witnessed the immersion of 9,871 Lord Ganesha idols over the course of two days, from September 19th as part of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. These idols were immersed in a spiritually charged and eco-friendly atmosphere.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation meticulously organized the event, designating 22 natural immersion sites and 141 artificial immersion locations, totaling 163 immersion sites, for the 9,871 Ganesha idols. The entire process was carried out with great dedication and reverence.
Mr. Rajesh Narvekar, the Municipal Commissioner, provided guidance for the seamless execution of the immersion process. Volunteers from the community played an active role in immersing the idols at natural and artificial immersion sites. In total, 7,236 idols from public organizations and 7,211 from households were immersed at the natural sites, while 2,628 household idols and 2,635 idols from public organizations were immersed at artificial sites. This amounted to a grand total of 9,871 idols being immersed without causing harm to the environment.
The initiative also included the construction of artificial ponds, with a specific focus on maintaining the purity of natural water bodies. Citizens were encouraged to utilize these artificial ponds, equipped with adequate sanitation facilities, for the immersion of Ganesha idols.
In addition to their efforts in creating a cleaner environment, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation organized several educational campaigns and utilized loudspeakers at immersion sites to raise awareness among citizens about eco-friendly immersion practices. Furthermore, the use of electricity generators and an efficient waste management system were part of the comprehensive plan to ensure a smooth and eco-conscious immersion process.
This successful endeavor not only promoted eco-friendliness but also encouraged citizens to immerse their idols in their own artificial ponds, a move that aligns with eco-friendly principles and reduces the burden on natural water bodies.
As the Ganesh Chaturthi festival culminates, the focus now turns to the Visarjan of senior Ganesha idols, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2023. The administration is gearing up for the event, with an even greater emphasis on the preparedness of the artificial ponds and effective coordination between authorities to maintain a sense of tranquility and order.
Navi Mumbai’s citizens have shown that they are committed to not only celebrating their beloved festival but also preserving their environment. This eco-friendly immersion has set a positive example for other regions, demonstrating that traditional festivals can coexist harmoniously with nature. The Municipal Commissioner, Mr. Rajesh Narvekar, has encouraged citizens to continue using artificial immersion ponds and maintain an eco-friendly approach in their festivities.
