Manu Sharma, son of Congress politician had surrendered to police in 1999.
Model Jessica Lal was shot dead by Siddharth Vashisht aka Manu sharma in an unlicensed bar at private party in South Delhi. He was awarded life imprisonment in 2006 for murder of 34-year-old Jessica Lal on 30 May 1999, after she refused to serve him liquor. On monday Manu was released from Delhi Jail after Government accepted the suggestion of the Sentence Review Court which was then signed by Lt Governor Anil Baijal.
As per the law, any convict who serves 14 years in prison without remission can be considered for early release if the person hasn’t committed a heinous crime when he or she was out on parole.
Manu was released from prison after serving 14 years in jail for “Good Behavior“.
A trial court had acquitted Manu of the murder because of which there was huge outrage and protest across the nation and then High Court took the case and held him guilty, reversed the decision and sentenced him to a life-term.
