Navi Mumbai :– The Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Rajesh Narvekar, has issued a heartfelt appeal to the citizens and Ganeshotsav Mandals to celebrate an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav and Navratri festival while adhering to government directives. The announcement comes ahead of the Ganeshotsav 2023, set to commence from September 19 and continue until September 28, followed by the Navratri festivities from October 15 to October 24.
The guidelines for public Ganeshotsav and Navratri celebrations have been outlined, emphasizing responsible practices to minimize the impact on the environment and public health. Mandals planning to participate in the festivities are required to seek prior permission from the Municipal Corporation/Local Administration in accordance with their policies.
The directive stresses the need for simplicity in decorations and setups, discouraging the use of ostentatious displays. Notably, organizers are urged to avoid idols made from Plaster of Paris (POP) and encouraged to opt for idols crafted from shadu mud, a more environmentally friendly alternative. Home worshipers are advised to choose metal or marble idols and, if appropriate, immerse them at home. For those unable to perform home immersions, artificial immersions should be conducted at the nearest municipal corporation.
Additionally, the Commissioner has highlighted the importance of public health and safety. The guidelines prioritize health activities and camps over cultural events, focusing on creating awareness about diseases, preventive measures, and hygiene. Measures to mitigate noise pollution and the spread of infections have been laid out, urging organizers to explore online avenues for darshan and adopt strict disinfection practices.
In a bid to streamline permissions and maintain order, the Commissioner announced the introduction of an online permission application system for erecting pavilions during Ganeshotsav and Navratri. All groups and citizens are required to submit their applications through the “e-Service Computer System” available on the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation website, *www.rtsnmmconline.com*, a month before the respective festivals. Notably, no fees or deposits will be charged for constructing the pavilions.
The directive emphasizes that the construction of pavilions should not commence without obtaining necessary permissions from all relevant departments. Unauthorized constructions will be subject to eviction action. Mandals and citizens are urged to adhere to the timeline for submitting permission applications to avoid any disruptions.
The initiative is aligned with the commitment to create a greener and more sustainable festive season. The Municipal Corporation’s call for an eco-friendly Shri Ganeshotsav and Navratri celebration underscores the importance of collective efforts in preserving the environment and fostering a sense of responsibility among citizens.
