Navi Mumbai : In the Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray Hospital at Nerul of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Municipal Commissioner Shri. Ahijeet Bangar with the continuous follow-up of the Covid-19 Testing and Diagnosis (Rt-PCR Fully Automatic Lab) set up within 15 days, the state-of-the-art laboratory has started conducting RT-PCR tests last tuesday.
On 31st July, the Guardian Minister of Thane District, Shri Eknath Shinde, along with MP Shri. Rajan Vichare inspected the work in the final phase of the laboratory and expressed satisfaction. Following the receipt of official letter of approval from the ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) to start this laboratory, RT-PCR tests have been started at this place immediately as per the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner.
As Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation did not have its own lab, it had to rely on government or private labs for testing of Covid 19. The delay in receiving the investigation report was hampering the implementation of the Covid 19 measures. Paying special attention to this matter from the first day, while addressing the citizens through the media at the first press conference, Commissioner Shri. Abhijeet Bangar had made it clear that he would focus on increasing the number of tests to detect and isolate positive individuals as soon as possible.
In that connection, in just two days after assuming the post of Municipal Commissioner, antigen testing was started from 16th July and emphasis was laid on increasing the daily testing setter. Currently, 2500 antigen tests are being performed daily from 22 antigen testing centers. It now has the Corporation’s own state-of-the-art fully automated lab with the capacity to perform 1000 RT-PCR tests a day, which will speed up the testing of Covid 19 in Navi Mumbai.
With a capacity of 1000 RT-PCR tests per day, the lab is currently being used to test for Covid 19 during the Covid 19 period, but will be used for future hepatitis, swine flu, leptospirosis, HIV and other molecular tests. Therefore, this fully automatic lab is a permanently important achievement for the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and a self-sufficient empowerment of the health department.
The antigen test and the pair are equipped with a state-of-the-art fully automatic RT-PCR, a municipal claim of 1000 RT-PCR testing capabilities per day. Lab Covid 19 is a force to be reckoned with and the citizens of Navi Mumbai are urged to co-operate in the measures being taken by the corporation to prevent the spread of corona.
