Actor R Madhavan has often spoken about his approach to parenting and his support for son Vedaant Madhavan’s swimming career. In a recent interview, Madhavan revealed that he treated his son Vedaant like an adult from a young age and always valued his opinions.

“From a very young age, I treated my son Vedaant like an adult. I never mollycoddled him. When Vedaant was five years old, I would ask him for his opinion on what to do. He has grown up knowing that his opinion matters to me. Children will make mistakes, but I don’t want Vedaant to repeat mine. Every day brings a new challenge when it comes to parenting in today’s world. I think I’m a cool dad, but I don’t know if my son believes that or not,” he said in a conversation on The SS Podcast.

During the interaction, Madhavan also shared that his son Vedaant is “very blunt” when it comes to his films.

He shared, “Vedaant is very raw and blunt when it comes to reacting to my films. If he likes a film, he praises it a lot. After watching Vikram Vedha, he hugged me. After watching Rocketry, he said, ‘Dad, I’m really proud of you.’ Vedaant watched Dhurandhar with his friends in the US. After watching the trailer, he thought it was extraordinary. I really appreciate his feedback.”

When R Madhavan admitted there are better swimmers than Vedaant

This is not the first time Madhavan has talked about his son Vedaant. During an earlier interaction with Behindwoods TV, Madhavan admitted that there are better swimmers than Vedaant, but he just gets more attention because of being the child of a popular actor. “Along with Vedaant, there are many swimmers in India who are even better than him. But because they aren’t my son, they don’t get as much spotlight. Wherever I go, people talk about him because he is my son. I told him only one thing: ‘Stardom is a very dangerous thing, my friend. You got it at a very young age. Learn how to handle it because it comes and goes, and mental peace shouldn’t be affected.”

On the professional front, R Madhavan was last seen in GDN, a biopic on inventor Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu, which hit theatres on August 7.
