Ramashray Pandey, General Manager, Western Railway, felicitated six employees with the General Manager's "Man of the Month" Safety Awards for the month of July 2026 at the Western Railway Headquarters, Mumbai. These employees were recognised for their exemplary alertness, dedication and commitment to duty, which played a significant role in preventing potential untoward incidents and ensuring safe train operations. The awardees included two employees each from Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad Divisions and one employee each from Vadodara and Bhavnagar Divisions.

According to a press release issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, Vineet Abhishek, one of the awardees from Mumbai Central Division, Abdul Wahab, Technician, was honoured for his exceptional alertness and presence of mind in noticing an unusually large gap between two wagons of a goods train. Suspecting a serious problem with the coupling, he immediately informed the concerned officials. Further inspection revealed unusual impact marks and a break in the body of the Centre Buffer Coupler Yoke, an important part connecting the two wagons. The wagon was immediately declared unsafe and removed from service. Abdul Wahab’s vigilance and prompt action prevented a potential mishap and ensured safety of train operations.

Another noteworthy instance of alertness was displayed by Kalyan Singh, Loco Pilot (Mail), Bandra Terminus, Mumbai Central Division, who acted swiftly after noticing an abnormal and unusual jerking movement between Maroli and Navsari stations, while working Train No. 22962 Ahmedabad – Mumbai Central Vande Bharat Express, on 1st July, 2026. He immediately stopped the train and promptly informed the Train Manager as well as concerned railway officials. Thereafter, he carefully negotiated the affected section, ensuring passenger safety. Further inspection of the location revealed an uneven track and a speed restriction of 10 kmph was immediately imposed to ensure safe train operations. Kalyan Singh’s keen observation, sound judgement and timely reporting led to the early detection of a potentially hazardous track condition, helping avert a possible mishap.

Employees from other divisions were also felicitated for their exemplary presence of mind and swift response in identifying and addressing safety hazards. Their commendable actions included reporting a pipe dangling from a freight wagon, spotting a fire inside a coach at Sabarmati Coaching Terminal, identifying a jammed wheel on a passing train and taking timely action to report a fire near railway tracks.
