NSE may cut IPO size to Rs 25,000 crore from Rs 30,000 crore
Synopsis
The National Stock Exchange is considering reducing its initial public offering size. The proposed share sale could now amount to around ₹24,000-25,000 crore. NSE aims to launch the IPO in the third week of September. This move would retain Hyundai Motor India's largest IPO tag. The exchange received Sebi's consent to proceed with the IPO.
ANIMumbai: The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is considering reducing the size of its much-awaited initial public offering (IPO) to around ₹24,000-25,000 crore from ₹30,000 crore, according to people familiar with the matter.
The proposed share sale by existing stakeholders could amount to around 5% of the exchange's paid-up capital, compared with approximately 6% planned earlier, while the price band could be around ₹1,750, the people said.
Shares of NSE were trading at ₹2,045 in the unlisted markets on Tuesday evening, as per data from unlistedzone.com.
ET BureauAt ₹30,000 crore, NSE's IPO was slated to be the largest ever to date in India, surpassing Hyundai Motor India's ₹27,870-crore concluded issue in October 2024. If the exchange cuts the IPO size, Hyundai will retain the tag of India's largest IPO until Jio Platforms launches its proposed issue of around ₹37,000 crore, possibly during Navratri or Diwali.
NSE is aiming to launch the IPO in the third week of September and list in the fourth week, people familiar with the development said. The exchange received Sebi's consent to go ahead with the IPO on Sep 4. "NSE wants to wrap up the entire process before the start of the Shradh (Pitru Paksha) period," said a person in the know. "The launch is therefore likely to take place in the third week of September, with the issue expected to open for anchor investors on September 17."
During Pitru Paksha, which begins on September 26, many investors and businesses have traditionally avoided new launches, ventures and major purchases.

NSE shares will be listed on the platform of its older rival, the BSE. An email sent to the NSE did not elicit any response.
It could not be ascertained which shareholders would sell fewer shares if NSE decides to reduce the IPO size. State Bank of India, MS Strategic (Mauritius), Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Aranda Investments (Mauritius), Bank of Baroda and Stock Holding Corporation of India are among the shareholders proposing to sell a portion of their stakes in the IPO.
The exchange had posted a consolidated profit after tax of ₹3,120 crore for the June quarter, up 8.7% from ₹2,871 crore in January-March. Consolidated revenue from operations declined 8.2% to ₹4,560 crore from the previous quarter. Its consolidated profit after tax went up 7% and consolidated revenue from operations increased by 13% from the same period a year ago.
