Mizoram's electoral rolls underwent a significant change during the SIR exercise, with 78,442 names deleted and 39,243 new electors added, taking the State's final voter count to 8.35 lakh, a senior official said on Monday (September 7, 2026).

The final roll also recorded the State's first third gender elector, alongside 4 lakh male and 4.32 lakh female voters, according to state Chief Electoral Officer Garima Gupta.

The SIR was launched across all districts on May 20, alongside 15 States and two Union Territories covered in the third phase of the nationwide revision exercise.

Before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the State had 8,75 lakh registered electors, all of whom were provided enumeration forms, Ms. Gupta said.

Of these, 8,28,906 forms were collected, while 46,162 remained uncollected and the voters' names were subsequently deleted, she said.

"The draft electoral rolls published on July 4 contained 8,28,906 electors. During the claims and objections period, which ended on 2 September, 32,280 more names were removed while 39,243 voters were added, resulting in a net increase of 6,963 electors or 0.84% from the draft rolls, in the final rolls," Ms. Gupta told a news conference here.

According to the final rolls, Aizawl district has the highest number of voters at 2.78 lakh, followed by Lunglei district (97,172) and Lawngtlai district (90,715), while Hnahthial district, created in 2019, has the least number of voters at 15,522, the CEO said.

Among the constituencies, Tuichawng Assembly constituency in Lawngtlai district has the highest number of electors at 37,236, while West Tuipui in Lunglei district has the lowest at 14,667, she said.

Aizawl North-I recorded the largest increase, gaining 1,394 electors, while West Tuipui in Lunglei district witnessed the steepest decline, losing 1,800 voters from its draft-roll strength, Ms. Gupta said.

Aizawl North-II recorded the highest sex ratio, with 1,221 female electors for every 1,000 male electors, while West Tuipui recorded the lowest at 848 females per 1,000 males.

According to Ms. Gupta, the final roll was originally scheduled to be published on September 6 but was released on Monday as the scheduled date fell on a Sunday.

She said the SIR exercise was one of the smoothest in the country and thanked political parties, civil societies, churches, community leaders and media for their cooperation during the three-month-long exercise.
