BRICS Schedule: The 2026 BRICS Summit is set to take place in New Delhi starting on September twelfth. During this two-day event, leaders from member nations will engage in discussions aimed at enhancing global governance and promoting multilateralism. Food security, energy cooperation, and advancements in technology will be among the primary objectives tackled, culminating in the New Delhi Declaration to solidify economic partnerships and resilience in various sectors.

BRICS Summit 2026 Schedule: The two-day BRICS Summit 2026, hosted by India in New Delhi, will begin on Saturday, September 12, with leaders discussing global governance, multilateralism and ways to strengthen resilience across critical sectors. The summit will conclude on Sunday, September 13, with the release of the New Delhi Declaration.

India is hosting the summit as part of its 2026 BRICS chairship, with the grouping expected to focus on cooperation in areas including food and energy security, healthcare, disaster resilience, trade, investment, technology and critical supply chains.

BRICS Summit 2026 schedule: What happens on September 12 and 13?

The summit will begin with a closed-door meeting of BRICS member countries on Saturday before leaders take part in an exhibition, a family photo and a tree-planting ceremony.

Saturday, September 12

2:35 pm: BRICS member-country leaders will attend a closed-door session titled “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism”.
4:25 pm: Leaders will visit the Bharat Innovates Exhibition.
5:05 pm: Leaders will assemble at Bharat Mandapam for the official family photograph, followed by a joint tree-planting ceremony.
7:30 pm: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a gala dinner for the participating leaders.

Sunday, September 13

9:55 am: Leaders from BRICS member countries, partner countries and outreach invitees will begin arriving.
10:35 am: The official group photograph will take place.
10:50 am: Leaders will attend the main open session titled “Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth”.

The summit will conclude with the release of the New Delhi Declaration.

BRICS Summit 2026 agenda: What will leaders discuss?

The summit comes at a time when geopolitical tensions, conflicts and disruptions to global supply networks are putting pressure on economies and international cooperation. India has therefore placed resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability at the heart of its BRICS agenda.

The discussions will cover several areas, ranging from food and energy security to global governance and emerging technologies.

Food and energy security among key BRICS priorities

Food and energy security will be central to discussions on building greater resilience among member countries.

Leaders are expected to explore ways to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, food security and energy while reducing vulnerabilities created by geopolitical disruptions and instability in global supply chains.

Health and disaster-risk reduction will also form part of the resilience-focused discussions.

BRICS trade, investment and technology cooperation

Economic cooperation will be another major focus of the summit, with India seeking to strengthen trade and investment between BRICS economies.

Leaders are also expected to discuss connectivity and greater cooperation in high-technology sectors. These issues form part of India's broader effort to deepen economic and technological links between emerging economies.

Global governance and strengthening multilateralism

Reforming and strengthening multilateral institutions will feature prominently at the summit.

The first closed-door session on Saturday is specifically dedicated to “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism”, reflecting India's emphasis on making global decision-making more representative and inclusive.

BRICS leaders to discuss global and regional conflicts

BRICS leaders are also expected to exchange views on major international and regional developments, as well as issues of mutual interest.

The summit takes place against a backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war, continuing tensions in West Asia, concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and changing trade and tariff policies under the Donald Trump administration.

With BRICS decisions generally requiring consensus, differences among members could also make negotiations on a joint statement challenging.

Who is attending the BRICS Summit 2026?

Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto are among the leaders expected to attend the summit, according to PTI.

The participation of leaders from BRICS member and partner countries is expected to give the New Delhi summit a broad representation of emerging economies.

Which countries are BRICS members?

BRICS initially consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The grouping expanded in 2024, adding Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Indonesia became a member in 2025.

The group now has 11 member countries.

In 2025, Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam were added as BRICS partner countries.

According to the Indian government, BRICS member countries together account for around 49.5% of the world's population, 40% of global GDP and 26% of global trade.

India’s BRICS 2026 chairship: Theme and priorities

India assumed its fourth BRICS chairship on January 1, 2026, having previously chaired the grouping in 2012, 2016 and 2021.

India's theme for its current chairship is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, with a stated emphasis on a people-centric approach guided by the principle of “humanity first”.

More than 350 meetings and high-level engagements have been held across over 25 Indian cities during the chairship, covering BRICS' three broad areas of cooperation: political and security affairs, economic and financial cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

BRICS Summit 2026

The New Delhi summit comes at a particularly complex moment for the global economy, with geopolitical conflicts, trade tensions and uncertainty around energy and supply chains affecting countries worldwide.

For India, the summit provides an opportunity to push cooperation on resilience, technology, trade and sustainable growth while seeking a stronger voice for emerging economies in global institutions.

The New Delhi Declaration, expected at the conclusion of the summit, will indicate the areas where the expanded grouping has been able to reach common ground.
