The Executive Council of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya (MGAHV) has decided to restart programmes under its Women Studies and Film Studies departments at its Wardha headquarters from the 2027-28 academic session, four years after the courses were shifted to its regional centre in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

The decision was taken at the Executive Council meeting at the Wardha campus on Monday. On Sunday, reported on a three-month-long student protest over the shifting of the departments, the freezing of PhD admissions and the discontinuation of several language programmes. The agitation had also led to an FIR against six students. The university, said the decision to bring the two departments back to Wardha was taken in the “larger interest of students”.

In 2022, the university shifted all Women Studies and Film Studies courses from Wardha to its regional centre, citing increased enrolment and “lokhit” (public good). The move was followed by complaints from students and faculty over inadequate infrastructure at Prayagraj and disruption faced by existing PhD scholars who remained at Wardha.
