Eating healthy but still not feeling your best? A health and transformation coach explains why the way you eat matters too.

When people start working on their fitness, food is often reduced to a list of dos and don’ts. Eat more protein, cut sugar, avoid carbs, and count calories. But the conversation needs to go beyond what is on the plate. The way we eat can influence the habits that decide whether a diet is sustainable or not. In an interview with Lifestyle, Yash Vardhan Swami, founder and transformation coach at TrainedbyYVS, shared why your eating speed, routine, and mindset matter as much as your food choices.

    Skipping meals

Consider someone who skips lunch because of work and then reaches home extremely hungry. At that point, eating whatever is available is an easy choice. The issue may not be a lack of knowledge about nutrition. The person simply did not have a routine that worked with their day.

    Eating with distraction

Another factor that impacts your health is eating with distraction. Yash Vardhan highlighted that finishing a meal while watching a show, scrolling through social media, or working can make us pay less attention to the food and to how much we are eating. Sitting down and eating without distractions can help bring some awareness back to the meal.

    Eating speed

Speed is another factor people rarely think about. Eating in a hurry has become normal for many of us. “Taking a little more time to eat gives us a chance to notice when we are getting full instead of treating the plate as something that has to be finished,” said Yash Vardhan.

    Emotional eating

Then there is emotional eating. A difficult day can lead to unnecessary snacking, while celebrations can involve sweets and larger meals. Neither situation needs to turn into guilt. One meal is not the problem. The pattern that follows it is what matters.

“This is why I do not believe fitness should be built around constantly labelling food as good or bad. People need to understand their own eating patterns and make changes they can actually follow. Nutrition tells us what our body needs,” said Yash Vardhan.

Our eating habits determine how consistently we give it those things. When both are addressed, healthy eating becomes less about following a perfect diet and more about building a routine that fits everyday life.
