Srinagar: US ambassador to India Sergio Gor is scheduled to arrive in Kashmir on August 19 for his first visit to the Union Territory since assuming charge earlier this year. He will then proceed to Ladakh.

Gor is likely to meet lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha, chief minister Omar Abdullah, former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and the general officer commanding of the Army's 15 Corps during his overnight stay in Srinagar.

Security has been stepped up across Srinagar, with checkpoints erected at several places to ensure the visit concludes peacefully. Officials said a team from the US embassy was already in Srinagar to facilitate the meetings. This will be Gor's first visit to the Kashmir Valley since he formally took charge as the US ambassador to India.
